The Social Security Administration has released its annual list of the most popular baby names, with names that have been on top since the ‘90s holding the number one spots.
For boys, the most popular name of 2007 was Jacob, which has been at the top since 1999. Emily, a name that has appeared on the list beginning in 1996, was the number one girl’s name.
Following Jacob, the most popular boys’ names in the top 10 are Michael, Ethan, Joshua, Daniel, Christopher, Anthony, William, Matthew, and Andrew. The other top 10 names for girls are Isabella, Emma, Ava, Madison, Sophia, Olivia, Abigail, Hannah, and Elizabeth.
The Social Security Administration noted several trends in the compiled lists of the 1,000 most popular names for boys and girls born in 2007. First of all, they noted an increase in names held by celebrities and their children, such as Danica, JaMarcus, Shiloh, Maddox, Jayden, and Miley.
In regards to boys’ names, it was observed that there were many names that rhymed with “maiden.” Among them were Aiden, Haiden, and Jaiden.
The trend for girls’ names was that they were named “after spiritual and philosophical concepts.” Some of the names on the list included Destiny, Serenity, and Harmony.
The Social Security Administration first began putting together the list of the top baby names in 1997. Through its website, it now has lists going back to 1880.
