Church mall renamed for civic leader

For much of her adult life, Bayside Hills resident Margaret Battle was known as the “First Lady” of the neighborhood.
She was an active member in the Bayside Hills Civic Association (BHCA), a school teacher, a church organist and friend to many residents throughout the community.
On Sunday, June 8, Senator Frank Padavan (second left) joined with BHCA members, community leaders and friends to rename the mall in front of Colonial Church, at Bell Boulevard and Luke Place, the Margaret E. Battle Mall.
During the ceremony, Senator Padavan presented the Keil/Battle family with a Senate resolution honoring her life and contributions.
Shown here in addition to family members, BHCA President Michael Feiner (right) and former president Jerry Iannece (left) also attended the ceremony.
