The sixth annual NYC Musical Saw Festival will take place in Astoria on Saturday, July 5, featuring saw players from around the world.
The festival is being organized and hosted by Astoria resident Natalia Paruz, who is known as the “Saw Lady.”
About 20 musical saw players will perform in a concert beginning at 2 p.m. They are from the United States, Mexico, Germany, and Canada. Among those joining Paruz will be Nicholas Bardach of Germany and Rafael Cornejo of Mexico. Some of the saw players will also do solo performances during the festival. There will also be a “chorus of saws.”
Among the styles that will be heard during the performances are classical, contemporary, folk, gospel, pop, and show tunes.
A new composition by Scott R. Munson will have its world premiere during the NYC Musical Saw Festival.
The festival will also include an art exhibition and video installation that will feature the musical saw.
The sixth annual NYC Musical Saw Festival will be held at Trinity Church, which is located at 31-18 37th Street in Astoria. Admission is $10. For more information, visit www.SawLady.com.
