“Singing Poetry: An Evening of Russian Bard Songs” will take place at 6 p.m. on Monday, August 4 at the Briarwood Library. The songs will be performed by Vasily Kolchenko, who was born in Ukraine. The Briarwood Library is located at 85-12 Main Street and can be reached by calling 718-658-1680.
On Saturday, August 9, there will be “Surf Music Concert with Venice Beach Muscle Club” at 2 p.m. at the Flushing Library. The concert will include Hawaiian/Tiki music, ‘50s music and surf rock. The members of the Venice Beach Muscle Club are lead guitarist Evan Dawson, rhythm guitarist Melina Coppa, bassist Steve Leroy, and drummer Todd Martin. The Flushing Library is located at 41-17 Main Street. Its number is 718-661-1200.
Todd Craig will speak about his debut novel tor’cha at the Pomonok Library at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 9. Craig grew up in the Ravenswood Houses. His novel focuses on three African-American brothers living in the inner city. The Pomonok Library is located at 158-21 Jewel Avenue in Flushing and can be reached by calling 718-591-4343.

This year’s members’ art exhibition will be on display through August 31. The exhibit features about 100 pieces and includes work done in various forms.
“Goin’ to a Go-Go - From Hullabaloo to Shindig” will take place on Friday, August 8 at 8 p.m. The concert will feature pianist/vocalist James Jones singing rhythm and blues songs.
The concert “Besame Mucho” will take place at 8 p.m. on Friday, August 22. It will feature Latin vocalist Deborah Resto. She sings in Spanish, Portuguese and English.

“Hot Jazz/Cool Garden” will take place from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, August 24. The series showcases new bands specializing in traditional jazz. The August 24 concert will feature Lounge Leader. The house will also be open for tours.

There will be two performances in August as part of the free summer parks series “Summer on Broadway.” There will be a concert at 5 p.m. on Sunday, August 3 at the Forest Park Bandshell. Its theme will be “The Golden Years.” The themed concert “Stars of Tomorrow” will be held on Sunday, August 10. It will also be at 5 p.m. at the Forest Park Bandshell. The music director and conductor is Constantine Kitsopoulos.

The exhibition “Beggars and Choosers: Motherhood is Not a Class Privilege in America” will open on August 24 and will be on display through September 27. It is being curated by award-winning historian and author Rickie Solinger. This exhibition features “56 stunning prints by leading documentary photographers” and “addresses current public policies on education, healthcare, housing, and incarceration [which] sustain poverty in the U.S.”
