Queens Center Mall ‘Segways’ into ‘green’ security

At the Queens Center Mall, the new color for security is “green.”
The Mall is showing how much it cares about the environment by introducing its energy-efficient T3 vehicle.
The three-wheeled vehicle, manufactured by T3 Motion, is the newest addition to the mall’s security fleet. It is similar to the 20-mph Segway, and has an elevated platform that allows the rider to stand high to look over their surroundings.
With the arrival of the T3, the mall has said good-bye to one of its gas-powered vehicles, a 2005 Jeep Liberty. One Jeep will stay though, for use during inclement weather.
“In addition to its energy efficiency, the T3 enables Queens Center to offer increased security coverage due to its speed and ability to maneuver where conventional security vehicles cannot,” said Marvin Walters, Queens Center Security and Guest Services Manager. “Whether it is an elevator, hallway, sidewalk or parking level, there are very few places the T3 cannot patrol or respond to,” Walters added.
As well as not being a gas-guzzler, the T3 comes equipped with its own automated external defibrillator (A.E.D.), just in time for the upcoming busy holiday season.
Queens Center is the first shopping center in the area and the first under Macerich, the company that owns Queens Center, to add this type of vehicle to its security fleet.
