EDITORIAL: No pardon for Caffe

As the sun rose on the New Year, January 1, it simultaneously set on a Queens landmark destination restaurant. Caffe on the Green, which was forced to cease operation.
The New York City Department of Parks decided to terminate restaurateur Joseph Franco’s license agreement prematurely and without discernable cause.
Franco’s first concern was for his employees who now face unemployment and loss of their future pension and health care benefits, along with his loyal customers and neighbors.
To that end, he has promised to resurrect Caffe locally and has promised to keep the restaurant’s web site, www.Caffeonthegreen.com., up to date on all future plans.
See you soon Joe, no matter where you go.
