Town Hall meeting for gas blast block

To help the Floral Park residents still displaced from their homes nearly two weeks after a gas blast took the life of Ghanwatti Boodram, City Councilmember David Weprin will convene a Town Hall meeting.

Set for Wednesday, May 6 from 6 to 8 p.m., the forum will include representatives from Con Edison, the Department of Buildings, New York City Department of Housing Preservation & Development, Department of Environmental Protection, the Mayor’s Community Assistance Unit, New York City Fire Department and the New York City Police Department, Community Affairs Division.

“We will update residents on what we know so far as to the investigation and the cause of the blast,” said Michael Clendenin, spokesperson for Con Ed.

Boodram, 40, a mother of three, was inside 80-50 260th Street on Friday afternoon, April 24 when her house blew up.

Only an hour before the explosion, a Con Edison crew arrived on the scene and was checking for an odor of gas after neighbor Stanley Barth called the utility giant.

The Town Hall meeting will be held at P.S. 115, at 80-51 261st Street. For more information, call Weprin’s office at 718-465-8202.
