Help LaGuardia CC scholarship drive

With the start of LaGuardia Community College Foundation’s “Spring into Action” scholarship drive, donors have twice the reason to participate, as some donations will be matched by the City University of New York (CUNY).

CUNY will match all donations up to $110,000 in the Textbook Challenge – one facet of LaGuardia’s scholarship campaign. LaGuardia’s Spring into Action campaign aims to raise money that will go towards providing $3,500 scholarships to new and returning students at the Long Island City school.

“The ‘Spring Into Action Campaign’ will provide essential assistance to LaGuardia students challenged by financial need,” said LaGuardia vice president of institutional advancement E. Ramone Segree. “Through the contributions of organizations and individuals who care about higher education, the LaGuardia Foundation and CUNY will provide students with the means to continue their education and launch successful careers.”

More than two-thirds of LaGuardia students come from households making less than $25,000, and most require financial assistance even though the college’s tuition is among the lowest in the New York area. Currently, the school is seeking the help of foundation board members, faculty, staff, alumni, businesses, foundations, organizations and friends in order to raise money for the scholarships.

Since its inception in March of 2003, the LaGuardia Community College Foundation has made it easier for more than 1,000 LaGuardia students to pay for school. In addition to scholarship support, the Foundation has also provided funding for textbooks, transportation and state-of-the-art resources to prepare students for life’s work and leadership.

Contributions can be made online from now until May 31 at https://www.laguardia.edu/springintoaction. A printable pledge form is also available on the web site.
