Sick kids at Jamaica Hospital got a special visit recently – and some things to help brighten their days.
On Friday morning, March 26, five members of the Lefferts/Liberty Kiwanis Club and three consumers and staff from HeartShare Human Services of New York’s Union Turnpike Day Services Program met at Jamaica Hospital to spread some cheer to the children and families in the Pediatric Unit.
The Lefferts/Liberty Club made a doll that was stuffed and dressed by the disabled consumers who attend the HeartShare program. The doll can be cuddled or used by the doctors to demonstrate what procedures will be done with the children.
This effort was two-tiered project that not only cheered up the hospitalized children, but gave the adults a job in helping to create the finished product.
“This is something that we want to be an ongoing project for our Club,” saidCarol Verdi, First Vice President, Lefferts/Liberty Kiwanis. “We also gave the children coloring books and sticker books to help occupy their time.”
