The SASS Foundation for Medical Research, Inc. will help educate the community during the 16th Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Day on Saturday, October 2.
The SASS Foundation was originally formed in 1986 under the name the Hematologic Research Foundation to aid in fighting cancer and blood-related diseases. The organization now uses education, research and patient care as a means of battling cancer.
The upcoming free education day will include a “Meet the Experts” town hall forum and support services showcase and workshops. There will also be a keynote address, awards presentations and a luncheon.
The co-moderators of the Breast Cancer Awareness Day will be Dr. Francis Arena and Dr. Dwight DeRisi.
Joan Ambrosino, the Education Administrator at The SASS Foundation for Medical Research, Inc., said that part of the mission of the foundation is to promote a better understanding of cancer and to reach out to as many as possible with knowledge and the vital message of hope and encouragement.
“As we all know, knowledge is power, and the latest updates in cancer research and treatment will be presented at this special day of education,” she said.
Breast Cancer Awareness Day will be held from 9 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. at the Long Island Marriott, which is located at 101 James Doolittle Boulevard in Uniondale.
In previous years, the event has been attended by more than 600 people. The event is open to anyone who is interested in attending, including breast cancer patients and their families.
