BAYSIDE
Arts and crafts
fair in October

The Bayside Village Business Improvement District (BID), in conjunction with The Village Artist Organization, will be presenting an arts and crafts fair in October, and it is currently looking for participants.

The Bayside Arts and Crafts Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, October 17 at the Bayside LIRR train station off of Bell Boulevard.

Handmade crafts, including jewelry, pottery, gift baskets, leather, ceramics, silk, fantasy clocks, and other original artworks, will be displayed. There will also be family entertainment, such as musicians, singers and jugglers.

The fair is free to attend.

“We’re about to do some very beautiful, tasteful community events here,” said BID executive director Gregg Sullivan.

Money raised during the fair will go towards Bayside Village BID projects. This includes a beautification initiative.

The BID has taken over the monument island area by the Bayside LIRR train station, where they plan on redoing the brick work and putting in new trees, bushes, flowers and grass. They will also be offering businesses the opportunity to sponsor light pole banners.

Another focus of the Bayside Village BID has been to increase parking by raising consciousness. One way this has been accomplished is by making sure residents do not take up two parking spots with one car.

Sullivan said that he is looking forward to the Bayside Arts and Crafts Fair being a first small step towards his goal of starting a new tradition of holding “quaint events” to bring back a sense of community while making Bell Boulevard more of a destination.
