Comedy comes to Bell Boulevard

The Bayside restaurant Papazzio, located at 39-38 Bell Boulevard, is making sure customers have something to laugh about during its monthly comedy shows.

“I think people are looking for more than just dining out now,” Papazzio owner Dominick Bruccoleri said. “They’re looking for some kind of entertainment, they’re looking for something to do.”

Papazzio held its first comedy show in July to fill that need, Bruccoleri explained, and give people a chance to have dinner, cocktails and see a show all in one place. Both the July show and the one held in August were sold out.

“It’s been very, very successful,” Bruccoleri said. “People love it.”

Through a comedian who also does bookings, Bruccoleri said that he’s been able to bring Comedy Central headliners to Papazzio. He described them as “top comedians.” The headliners are also joined by two or three other comedians.

“It’s hilarious,” Bruccoleri said of the shows, adding that they have worked out better than he ever anticipated.

Papazzio is no stranger to doing things to involve the community. Bruccoleri said one of the reasons he thinks it’s important to be a part of the community is because his roots are in the area.

“My place has been successful for 20 years because of the community supporting it,” he said. “That says it all. You’ve got to give back.”

Papazzio will hold its next comedy show on Friday, September 24, beginning with dinner at 9 p.m. After dinner, there will be about two hours of comedy featuring Kerri Louise, Judy Cianciatto and Howard Feller.

The cost is $49.95 per person, which includes dinner and the show. Beverages, tips and gratuity are additional.

There will also be a show on Friday, October 15. Bruccoleri said that Papazzio will continue doing the shows and will eventually start holding them twice a month.
