Man killed after van, ambulance collide

On Wednesday, September 15 police responded to a 9-1-1 call of pedestrian struck on 76th Street and Woodside Avenue.

Upon their arrival, officers observed the victim, Rashid Muhammad, 75, unconscious and unresponsive after a van collided with an FDNY ambulance, flipped and crushed him.

The ambulance, according to reports, had been taking a stroke victim to Elmhurst General Hospital and had its lights and sirens on at the time of the incident.

The retired mechanic was taken by a separate ambulance to the hospital, but died before he got there.

The drivers of both the van and the ambulance were in stable condition at Elmhurst Hospital.
