Outreach event for Racino jobs

The company that plans to turn Aqueduct Racino into a destination spot is ramping up hiring efforts with a community outreach event at the Resorts World New York facility on Friday, November 19, from 8:30 a.m. to noon.
Genting New York, which won the bid and broke ground for the new Casino at Aqueduct, will hold its first major outreach event for minority, women and locally-owned businesses with their general contractor, Tutor Perini.
The event will focus on minority, women and locally owned business enterprises in the contracting and supplying industry interested in providing construction services for the new attraction in South Ozone Park.
“From the beginning, Resorts World New York has made clear its unwavering commitment to working hand-in-hand with the Queens community,” said Mike Speller, President of Resorts World New York. “We are fully committed to exceeding the minority and women workforce requirements on this construction project, and are unequivocally devoted to making sure that we provide workers in Queens with good-paying and reliable jobs, so that Resorts World New York is as much a product of the community as it is a staple of it.”
Speller said that the hiring process will be transparent and will include the community every step of the way. With this approach, they intend on recruiting a talented Queens workforce to build and maintain the casino.
“Our process is simple and transparent – we will notify the community that we have a procurement need, detail exactly what we intend to source and be crystal clear about the timing of delivery and other pertinent information related to the specific bid,” he said.
Genting’s repurposing of the Aqueduct Racino site aims to create 2,100 new jobs and generate more than $300 million in annual revenue for the state and give the city its first casino. The project is expected to create 1,300 construction jobs, as well as 800 permanent jobs consisting of the entertainment, hospitality, security and food service fields.
The timeline for hiring casino-based and other permanent jobs is expected to be released in December.
“Resorts World New York is committed to working with the community at large and purchasing operational goods and services from local businesses whenever possible,” said Speller. “This commitment includes supporting local certified minority and women owned business enterprises that have the ability to meet our supply needs.”
