Holiday party and fundraiser

The Jamaica Rotary Club, which bills itself as largest service organization in the world, held its annual Christmas Party fundraiser at Il Palazzo Villa Russo.
Special guest, eight-year-old Kalkidan Belayeneh received a complete heart surgery at 18 months through the “Gift of Life International” program when she arrived in the U.S.A. from Ethiopia. She has had three surgeries in all, with the most recent to reposition her pace maker to work more efficiently.
Later on in the evening there was a presentation for Detective Feris “Jonesy” Jones for her bravery in shooting a man who entered a beauty parlor in Brooklyn and proceeded to rob everyone. She was having her hair done and rose to the occasion by shooting the intruder.
The award was given by Assistant Chief of Queens South James Secreto.
