VFW Family Day cookout

There was fun in the sun and plenty of grub at the annual Daniels Post Family Day Cookout on July 23.
Veterans and their families residing in Sunnyside and Woodside were invited to the barbeque, which was hosted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2813, also known as Daniels Post, located at 51-27 Queens Boulevard.
Children engaged in a variety of activities in order to stay cool in the blistering heat, including playing games in the sprinklers and a water grenade fight against Post Commander Marvin R. Jeffcoat.
The torrid temperatures could not keep Wilfredo Reynaud and George Nieves from fulfilling their duty to provide their friends and families with delicious food. Among the delicacies served were steak, hamburgers, hot dogs and penne ala vodka. Raw clams were also offered to guests as an appetizer.
To top off a perfect summer day, fresh watermelon and ice pops were served for dessert.
