Peter Smergut, CEO of Life’s WORC

Smergut has spent over 40 years working with special needs populations.  He currently serves as the Executive Director of Life=s WORC an agency providing supports for individuals with developmental disabilities in the New York Metropolitan area.  Life=s WORC has been acknowledged by the Society for Human Resource Management and Crain’s Business as a best company to work for in New York City and New York State.

Prior to his tenure at Life=s WORC Smergut served as the Supervising Principal for District 75 in New York City; a district serving over 15,000 students with special needs.  He was a founder and principal of the Manhattan Transition Center, a co-founder of the New York City Vocational Training Center and also served as the principal of the Manhattan School for Career Development, designated as a New York State COMPASS school.  Smergut has presented at numerous state and national conferences focusing on topics addressing issues impacting on individuals with special needs.  He has authored numerous articles on such topics as organizational behavior, leadership, strategic planning and values driven change.
