Four residents and five fighters were hospitalized with injuries after a four-alarm blaze broke out inside a home near the Brooklyn/Queens border in Ridgewood on Tuesday morning, Jan. 17, it was reported. Fire Department sources said the inferno ignited at around 8:20 a.m. inside a three-story apartment house on Himrod Street near Wyckoff Avenue, spreading throughout all three floors of the building before exending to an adjoining structure. Over 50 Fire Department units-including Engine Co. 271 and Ladder Co. 124, which are headquartered nearby-responded to the scene along with the 83rd Precinct and EMS units. The injured firefighters and residents were treated at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center and are recovering. Several families who were displaced by the inferno were provided with assistance by the American Red Cross of New York. Five hose lines were used by firefighters to bring the fire under control, an FDNY source said.
