Dot Survey on L. I. C. Bike Lanes

Seeking Residents’ Opinions On Paths

Following up on a July forum on potential bicycle lanes within Community Board 2, the Department of Transportation (DOT) has created an online survey for residents.

The survey asks residents about their experience riding bikes in Board 2, which potential bike path selected at the July forum would be most welcomed and which other bike paths would be good ideas.

As previously reported by the Times Newsweekly, the DOT is considering bike lanes on the following streets:

– 11th Street. a two-way street that will connect cyclists between Queens Plaza and the Pulaski Bridge;

– the 39th Street Bridge, from Skillman and 43rd Avenues to 34th Avenue in Astoria;

– Skillman Avenue, connecting riders to the Pulaski Bridge;

– 47th Avenue, an east-west route intended to be an alternative to Queens Boulevard; and

– 50th and 51st streets in Hunters Point, providing service to Hunters Point South residents as well as a route to Gantry Plaza State Park, the planned city waterfront park, and the East River Ferry terminal;

For those who did not make it to the meeting, the DOT’s presentation is available online at www.nyc.gov/html/dot/downloads/p df/2012-07-16-queens-cb2-bikeforum. pdf.
