Carol Elizabeth Brostek of Flushing passed away on Friday, November 9.
Beloved wife of Joseph for 56 years. Cherished mother of Jeanne Altenau of Eastchester; the late Brian; Carol Benedetto and husband Paul of Massapequa; Gerard and wife Catherine of Merrick; and Annemarie Brostek Martines and husband Peter of Port Washington. Brostek was adored by grandchildren Joseph and Daniel Altenau, Alyssa, Paul and Zachary Benedetto, and Meghan and Emily Brostek. She also leaves behind her dear brother George Heiser and his wife Elizabeth.
A lifelong resident of Queens, she was born on November 16, 1932 to the late Thomas and Gladys Heiser. She was predeceased by her sister, Patricia Heiser, C.S.J.
Brostek was a 1954 graduate of Queens College, Bishop McDonnell High School in 1950 and St. Mary’s School in Flushing in 1946. She served on reunion committees of her college and high school alumni organizations and she was also a devoted and very active member of St. Andrew Avellino Parish. She participated in a number of parish organizations, and for many years, she wrote a monthly feature in the parish publication. Brostek was also a member of the Broadway-Flushing Homeowners Association.
A passionate hostess, cook and crafter, her friends and family were always amazed to see how she decorated her home for every season and holiday.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on November 14 by Pastor Reverend Joseph Holcomb at St. Andrew Avellino Church and interment took place at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Flushing, under the direction of Quinn-Fogarty Funeral Home.
The family suggested that donations in Carol’s honor be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph, c/o Sr. Rose Viceconte, 1725 Brentwood Avenue, Brentwood, NY 11717.
