Qns. Women Contributed for Decades

Three long-time activists from Sunnyside and Ravenswood who have nearly 300 years of history between them were honored in a special way by City Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer in the City Council chambers last Wednesday, Mar. 13. As noted, the ceremony recognized the life-long contributions of Mannie Wilson of Ravenswood, a former Community Board 1 member and executive director of Resocialization of the Handicapped in Astoria; Gertrude McDonald of Sunnyside, member of the 108th Precinct Community Council and Community Board 2 who ran for an Assembly seat in 1968; and Ethel Plimack of Sunnyside Gardens, a former Board of Education employee who actively pursued the Sunnyside Gardens landmark district. The honorees are shown along with family and friends as well as Council Members Van Bramer, Peter Koo, Donovan Richards, Mark Weprin, Peter Vallone Jr. and Diana Reyna.
