Take The Trains To The Ball Games

Baseball’s regular season is underway, and the MTA is urging all Yankees and Mets fans to “take the train to the game” this year.

Those heading to Citi Field to meet the Mets this season can take the 7 line to and from Willets Point. Following weekend and weeknight games, the MTA will provide special super-express 7 trains which will depart Willets Point following the last out.

Mets fans can also take the Long Island Rail Road to and from Willets Point, which is five minutes away from the Woodside station. Regularly scheduled trains on the Port Washington branch will make stops at the Mets-Willets Point station throughout the regular season for all games; the LIRR will also operate 12 to 13 extra trains for each weekend game.

Yankees fans heading to the Bronx can take the B, D or 4 trains to the 161st Street-Yankee Stadium station, which is located right in front of the ballpark at 161st Street and River Avenue. Fans can also take the Metro- North train on the Hudson Line to the Yankees-East 153rd Street station, which is a short walk from Yankee Stadium.

It was noted that there will be special game trains on Metro-North which will be timed to let fans arrive for the first pitch and depart for a leisurely walk to the train station after the final out. The railroad also provides shuttle service to the stadium from Grand Central Terminal and Harlem-124th Street every 20 minutes before, during and after all games.

Both Metro-North and the LIRR will offer special $1 fares for children between five and 11 years old accompanied by an adult heading to and from Mets and Yankees games.
