Blowin’ Over the Changes In Sunnyside

Carol Sudhalter’s Astoria Big Band played jazz hits from the swing and big band eras at Sunnyside Reformed Church on Saturday, May 11. The group played 10 tunes over the course of the afternoon, including pieces composed by Afro-Cuban music maven Mario Bauzá, saxophonist John Coltrane, and Queens’ adopted sons, Louis Armstrong and Dizzy Gillespie. The group was augmented by Harlem-born jazz vocalist Frank Senior. Among those pictured are Senior (purple shirt) and Sudhalter (far right).
