SPRINGFIELD GARDENS — Authorities now believe a 35-year-old man discovered dead at the corner of 230th Place and Lansing Avenue early Thursday morning was hit by a car at another location, police said.

Brooklyn resident Jose Padilla-Argueta was found unconscious and bleeding from multiple injuries at about 5 a.m., police said, and EMS later pronounced him dead at the scene, but investigators believe the man was hit at another location.

On Friday, police released surveillance footage of a light-colored Volkswagen GTI traveling along South Conduit Avenue with substantial damage to the passenger side bumper, an unlit headlight, a caved-in windshield and partial roof damage, police said.

The battered vehicle was last seen heading east on the Sunrise Highway.
