Democrat I. Daneek Miller won his race for southeast Queens’ District 27 City Council seat Tuesday with a victory over Sondra Peeden, who continued her campaign on the Independence Party line after coming in dead last in the Democratic Party primary.
Miller, a transit union leader who was handpicked by term-limited Councilman Leroy Comrie (D-St. Albans) as his successor, garnered 96.5 percent of Tuesday’s vote with 46 percent of precincts reporting, according to preliminary numbers from the Associated Press.
Peeden, a partner at a managing consultant firm who spent 20 years working in the offices of Council members Juanita Watkins, Thomas White, Jr., David Weprin and Ruben Wills, pulled in 3.5 percent of the votes, according to the AP.
The race was something of a rematch from September’s Democratic primary when the two came out on opposite ends of the results.
Miller ended up with just over 24 percent of votes to earn the party line, while Peeden came in at the bottom of a crowded field with just under 4 percent.
The district covers St. Albans, Cambria Heights, Hollis and Jamaica.
