MTA to operate on modified schedule with LIRR running on weekend timetable

The MTA announced plans for modified subway, bus and rail service Wednesday morning as the city digs out from the latest winter storm that dumped about 7 inches on the boroughs.

The subway system should be operating close to normal service with express trains returning during the morning rush hour. Subway cars were stored on express tracks during the storm.

City buses will run at 80 percent to 90 percent of normal levels. Most buses will be using chains to navigate the streets.

The Long Island Rail Road will operate on a weekend schedule, which the MTA estimates provides 60 percent to 65 percent of the trains available on a normal weekday.
