A paint job at the Cooper Avenue underpass in Glendale scheduled to start as soon as this week will result in a partial closure of the roadway.
According to a Department of Transportation (DOT) notice, crews will apply a protective coating to the bridge carrying 71st Avenue above the underpass, which runs between 74th and 79th streets on the Glendale/Middle Village border. The project is scheduled to start on or about Friday, Nov. 3, and could last until the end of December, weather permitting.
Painting will take place during weekdays and overnight periods, Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and then 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. The eastbound side of the Cooper Avenue underpass will be closed during these periods. Eastbound traffic will be detoured along 73rd Place, Myrtle Avenue and 80th Street.
The underpass will remain open to westbound traffic throughout the project.
Drivers who normally use Cooper Avenue in Glendale during the scheduled work hours should allow for additional travel time.
