As part of his ongoing commitment to the Catholic communities of Queens and Brooklyn, Bishop Robert Brennan continues to foster strong connections with parishioners and students across both boroughs.
Since his appointment as Bishop of Brooklyn in 2021, Brennan has played an active role in faith-based initiatives, Catholic education, and community outreach, reinforcing his dedication to serving and supporting the diverse congregations of Queens and Brooklyn.
On Tuesday, Jan. 28, Brennan visited St. Andrew Avellino Roman Catholic Church and St. Andrew Avellino Catholic Academy in Flushing, two key institutions that serve the local Catholic community. The visit provided an opportunity for him to engage with clergy, educators, and students, reinforcing his commitment to Catholic education and faith outreach in Queens.
Bishop Brennan joined students of the academy, located next to the church, for morning Mass. He concluded Mass by blessing the 8th grade students’ class rings. After taking part in Mass at the church with students, Bishop Brennan went to the school to bless the new STEM lab and art room.
This special visit was in celebration of Catholic Schools Week, sponsored by the National Catholic Educational Association. Running through Saturday, Feb. 1, the theme of this year’s Catholic Schools Week is “Catholic Schools: United in Faith and Community.”
“Today at St. Andrew Avellino Catholic Academy, seeing such enthusiasm, it was wonderful,” Bishop Brennan said. “There’s a great excellence in education, but we really formed the whole person here. We blend together the arts and sciences, the academic learning, but with that sense of faith. I’m proud to see that we’re always innovating.
