ASTORIA – An argument early Saturday morning in Astoria left one man critically injured from several stab wounds, police said.
Two men were arguing outside La Polanita, a restaurant at 45-13 Broadway, at 3 a.m. last Saturday, said Officer Chris Cottingham, a police spokesman. One man stabbed the other five times in the right arm and twice in the chest, Cottingham said.
The 20-year-old victim was found with a broken bottle stuck in his chest, and he was in critical condition at Elmhurst General Hospital as of press time, Cottingham said.
The suspect, described as a male Hispanic, fled the scene on the subway, Cottingham said. Police in the 114th Precinct have not yet made any arrests.
Brooklyn couple found dead in Maspeth motel Monday
MASPETH – A Brooklyn couple were found dead in a motel Monday afternoon, and police are still trying to determine whether there was any foul play involved.
Placido Cabrera, 51, and Maria Elena Cabrera, 27, were found by police at the Grand Motor Inn, at 72-51 Grand Ave., at 1:20 p.m. Monday, said Detective Madelyne Galindo, a police spokesman.
The couple lived at 18-89 Troutman St. in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn. Placido Cabrera was found hanging by a cord wrapped around his neck in the closet of Room 119 at the motel, Galindo said. His wife was lying on the bed, but there was no apparent injury to her body, Galindo said.
Officials from the New York City Medical Examiner's office are still trying to determine the cause of the woman's death, Galindo said.
Robber flees with $800 from Sunnyside Post Office
SUNNYSIDE – An armed man robbed a post office in Sunnyside Saturday afternoon, police said.
The robber came into the U.S. Post Office at 45-14 44th St. at 1:47 p.m. on Saturday and began menacing the employees and customers with a handgun, said Sergeant Brian Burke, a Police Department spokesman. The man demanded money from one of the employees, and then fled with $800 in cash, Burke said.
The robber is described as a 23-year-old black man wearing a gray jackey and gray sweatpants. Burke said no one was injured during the robbery, and police in the 108th Precinct have not yet made any arrests, he said.
Bank robbers hit Astoria bank
ASTORIA – Two bank robbers hit the Bank of New York last Thursday afternoon, police said.
The robbers entered the Bank of New York branch at 31-01 Broadway at about 1 p.m. on Jan. 20, said Detective Joseph Pantangelo, a police spokesman. The suspects, described as two black men, brandished guns and fled with an undetermined amount of cash, Pantangelo said.
No one was injured, and police in the 114th Precinct have not yet made any arrests, Pantangelo said.
27-year-old man found dead in apparent suicide
RICHMOND HILL – A young man was found dead Saturday morning from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.
The 27-year-old man, whose name was not released, was found in his home at 87th Avenue and 114th Street at about 8:25 a.m. on Saturday, said Sergeant Brian Burke, a Police Department spokesman. He had been shot once in the head, and officers recovered a shotgun at the scene, Burke said.
Police in the 102nd Precinct believe the man committed suicide, he said.
Teen arrested in Queens court, charged in six armed robberies
KEW GARDENS – A teenager was arrested in the Queens Criminal Court building Tuesday for a series of robberies in the 102nd Precinct, police said.
Alex Erazo, 18, of 6 Oxford St. in New Windsor, N.Y., was charged with robbery in the first degree and criminal possession of a weapon, said Detective John Giammarino, a police spokesman. Erazo is wanted in connection with six armed robberies in the 102nd Precinct, which covers Richmond Hill, Woodhaven and Kew Gardens, the offider said.
No one was injured in any of the robberies, Giammarino said. Erazo was in court appearing for another case when police arrested him.
3 cops injured in Astoria fire
ASTORIA – Three police officers were injured after rescuing 10 people from an apartment house fire early Wednesday morning.
The fire broke out at 3:22 a.m. in an apartment building at 21-72 21st St., said Detective John Giammarino, a police spokesman. The fire had begun on the first floor of a building, which is occupied by a business.
Police officers from the 114th Precinct reached the scene before the Fire Department and removed 10 people from the building, Giammarino said. Nine of them were taken to Elmhurst General Hospital, he said.
The three officers were taken to Astoria General Hospital, where they were treated and released. Officers Gregory Link and Suzanne Lentini suffered from smoke inhalation, while Officer John Pranzo hurt his knee.

ROCKAWAYS – A 62-year-old schizophrenic man disappeared last Thursday afternoon, and police are asking the public's help in finding him.
Norman Feit, 62, was last seen at about 2 p.m. on Jan. 21 at the Gloria Manor Nursing Home, at 140 Beach 119th St., said Detective Joseph Pantangelo, a Police Department spokesman. Feit is about 5-foot-7, weighs 160 pounds and has green eyes and a beard, Pantangelo said.

Teens rescued at Baisley Park after falling through pond ice
SOUTH JAMAICA- Three boys fell through the thin ice of the pond at Baisley Park last Thursday at 2:45 p.m.
Detective George Naggi said the 13-year-olds were rescued shortly after and taken to Mary Immaculate Hospital.
Juliet Lewis, a spokeswoman for the hospital, said the boys were treated and released from the hospital after it was determined there were no symptoms indicating they had hypothermia.

Glen Oaks man found dead at home
GLEN OAKS – Dominick Fiamma, 58, was found shot in the head Monday at his home at 251-03 71st Ave. in Glen Oaks, said Officer Joseph Cavitolo, a Police Department spokesman.
He said no weapon was found at the scene and the police were still investigating the crime.

DEP employee charged with DWI in Whitestone
WHITESTONE – A city employee was charged with driving while intoxicated after an accident early Wednesday morning, police said.
Amin Prashant, 37, an employee of the city's Department of Environmental Protection, was charged with driving while intoxicated at 3:20 a.m. Wednesday, said Detective John Giammarino, a police spokesman. Prashant's address was not available as of press time.
He had been involved in an accident at 20th Avenue and Francis Lewis Boulevard shortly before he was arrested, Giammarino said.
Accidents shut down Cross Island Parkway
BAYSIDE – Four separate accidents involving 20 vehicles shut down the Cross Island Parkway Wednesday morning, police said.
The accidents resulted in at least six injuries and occurred near the Throgs Neck Bridge, said Detective John Giammarino, a police spokesman.
The pile-ups shut down the Cross Island Parkway from the Throgs Neck bridge to Northern Boulevard at 9 a.m., Giammarino said.
No details were available about the condition of those injured as of press time.
