Ridgewood — Two men were stabbed, one fatally, at 2 a.m. Saturday, on the corner of Cypress Avenue and Decatur Street outside a pool hall, said Detective Carolyn Chew, a police spokeswoman.
One of the victims, 20, was stabbed in the chest and abdomen. He was taken to Wykoff Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival, police said.
The other victim, 30, was stabbed in the upper torso. He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital where he was listed in stable condition, Chew said.
Five unidentified male Hispanics fled the scene, but there were no arrests, police said.
<i>Three LGA workers hospitalized after package found in terminal</i>
East Elmhurst — Three workers were exposed to unknown potentially hazardous materials in a package at LaGuardia’s Continental Terminal at about 2 p.m. Saturday, said Robert Calise, a Fire Department spokesman. One worker came into contact with the package.
Six people were in the area of the substance, which may have been medical or chemical supplies, but only three workers requested medical attention, Calise said. They were taken to Elmhurst Hospital for observation.
The package was not analyzed by press time.
<i>Cab driver shot in car in Richmond Hill</i>
Richmond Hill — A man was shot while sitting in his car at the corner of 116th Street and Jamaica Avenue, Detective Carolyn Chew, a police spokeswoman said.
The victim, a 20-year-old man, was sitting in his livery cab with a friend when a car pulled alongside his and fired several rounds, police said.
The victim was shot once in the right hand and once in the right side, Chew said. He was taken to Jamaica Hospital where he was listed in stable condition.
There were no arrests and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
<i>Gunmen rob man of cash in Sunnyside</i>
SUNNYSIDE – A 24-year-old man was robbed of cash and personal property last Monday morning when two gunmen followed him home, police said.
Detective Carolyn Chew, a spokeswoman for the Police Department, said the robbery victim was entering his home at 43-19 41 St., in Sunnyside when two men pulled out guns and followed him into his home, snatching an undetermined amount of money and property.
No arrests have been made.
<i>Three men hold up jeweler in Forest Hills</i>
FOREST HILLS —- Three unidentified men approached a 74-year-old jeweler and struck him on the head with a silver object and removed a bag containing $150,000 worth of assorted jewelry at 92-20 68th Ave. Tuesday at 5:10 p.m., police said.
The three men fled in a gray minivan with Pennsylvania license plates, said Detective Nancy Yule, a police spokeswoman. The van was recovered in front of 67-10 Selfridge St. where the suspects were observed getting into another gray minivan, also with Pennsylvania license plates, police said.
The victim was taken to the hospital. There were no arrests and the investigation was ongoing, Yule said.
<i>Suspicious package contained beeper in LIC</i>
Long Island City — A suspicious package emiting a loud beeping noise was heard from a mail box at 55-11 Queens Blvd., on Monday, police said.
The Fire Department responded and determined the object was a pager from a Chili’s restaurant, officer Theresa Farello, a police spokeswoman said.
<i>62-year-old man struck on Queens Boulevard</i>
REGO PARK — A 62-year-old man was struck on Queens Boulevard at 65th Road as he was crossing on the crosswalk Wednesday at 8 a.m., police said.
The driver, 70, was idling at a stoplight when his foot slipped off of the break, said Detective Nancy Yule, a police spokeswoman. The victim sustained minor injuries and was removed to North Shore Hospital. The police said there were no arrests.
<i>Man shot in elbow in Queens Village</i>
QUEENS VILLAGE — A 34-year-old man was shot in the right elbow and left calf at the corner of 244th Street and 137th Avenue about 4 p.m. Sunday, Officer Cheryl Cox, a police spokeswoman, said.
The man was taken to Mary Immaculate Hospital and was listed in stable condition, police said.
Police were investigating.
<i>13-year-olds fight with razor on bus on Guy Brewer Blvd.</i>
JAMAICA — A boy and a girl, both 13, started arguing Tuesday morning on a bus and then began fighting with a razor blade as they left the bus at 133-35 Guy Brewer Blvd., police said.
The girl cut the boy in the face with the blade she had been carrying in her pocket, said Officer Gary Cillo, a police spokesman. Another girl, also 13, who tried to break up the fight suffered a cut on her finger and was taken to Mary Immaculate Hospital for treatment. The boy was also taken to Jamaica Hospital.
The girl in the fight was arrested. Charges were not disclosed by press time.
<i>$6,000 in collections stolen from St. Fidelis</i>
College Point — About $6,000 from a church collection basket was stolen Sunday from St. Fidelis Church at 123-06 14th Ave., police said.
The funds were discovered missing later Sunday evening when the money was counted, said Officer Theresa Farello, a police spokeswoman.
<i>Little Neck house fire starts in baby stroller</i>
LITTLE NECK – Three children and an adult suffered smoke inhalation when a fire started in an unoccupied baby stroller in their home close to midnight Feb. 7, the Fire Department said.
Fireman Dan Lynch, a spokesman for the department, said the fire spread from the carriage toward the walls in the first floor of a two-story home at 257-04 86 Avenue in Little Neck.
The woman and three children were treated for smoke inhalation at the scene, Lynch said.
The cause of the fire was not determined by press time.
<i>Hillcrest house fire starts in basement</i>
Hillcrest — A fire broke out in the basement of a two-story house at 70-29 175th St. at about 1:45 p.m. Saturday, said Robert Calise, a Fire Department spokesman.
The blaze spread to the second floor of the house, and to an attached house, Calise said. Four children and an adult were taken to New York Hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.
The cause of the fire was not determined by press time.
<i>Man arrested for burglary</i>
Whitestone — A 31-year-old man was arrested for burglary at 157-18 12th St. Tuesday about 1:05 p.m., after he was observed entering a house through a rear window, police said. When police arrived the man barricaded himself into the house, said officer Gary Cillo, a police spokesman. Police said the man, who was not identified, was arrested without incident and without injuries or the use of weapons.
<i>Police patrols beefed up at dangerous intersections</i>
BAYSIDE — The 111th Police Precinct has announced locations where it plans to increase patrols in February.
The intersections are targeted by police because they showed an increase in the number of crashes during the previous month.
They are Horace Harding Expressway and Little Neck Parkway, and Horace Harding Expressway and Douglaston Parkway.
<i>Gunmen rob Flushing laundry, fire one shot into cash register</i>
FLUSHING — Three men robbed a Laundromat Friday morning, stealing $500 from one victim and firing one gunshot into the cash register, police said.
The robbery occurred around 4:50 a.m., when the three men, wearing masks, entered the New York Laundromat at 42-14 Bowne St. and demanded money, said Carmen Melendez, a police spokeswoman.
After one of the people inside handed over $500 in cash, one of the assailants fired a single shot into the cash register, the police said.
There were no injuries.
