Spooky science arrives in time for Halloween

Don’t be scared, the hall has something to entice even the bravest of souls. This is not the time to shy away from a frighteningly good time. All little goblins dressed in costume will receive free admission with a paying adult Oct. 26, 27 and 31.

Preschool Spooky Science Storytime

12:30 p.m.

Hear some creepy crawly stories.

Owl Pellet Dissection

1:30 p.m. & 3:15 p.m.

Learn how an owls hunts and see what they eat by dissecting an owl pellet. Ages 6 and up.

Materials fee: $3 per participant

Sound Science Videos — October 5-6, 12-13

“Sounds Around” (30 min)

Noon & 2 p.m.

Children 2 – 6 can listen, identify, compare and imitate the wide range of sounds around us including musical, mechanical, animal and human sounds.

“The Monkey People” (30 min)

12:30 p.m. & 2:30 p.m.

Raul Julia narrates this fantastical fable from the Amazon rainforest with an outstanding musical score that evokes the traditional folk rhythms of South America.

Scholastic’s “The Magic School Bus in the Haunted House” (30 min.)

1 p.m. & 3 p.m.

Join Ms. Frizzle and her class as they search for the source of mysterious sounds in a Haunted House.

Dr. Frankenstein’s Scary Sound Lab

October 19-20, 26-27, 1:30 p.m.

Join Dr. Frankenstein and his quirky assistant Eyegor as they create spooktacular sounds.

Fee: $2 per person, $1 per member. Tickets available at Admissions.

Spooky Sound Sensations

October 26-27, 11 a.m. — 3:30 p.m.

Visit a mad scientist that conducts weird experiments on sound in the haunted Sound Sensations exhibition.

Mad Science Halloween is sponsored by Astoria Federal Savings. Promotional support is provided by Radio Disney, the Queens Courier and Sam Ash Music.

Admission: General admission: $7.50 for adults (age 18 & over); $5 for students (ages 5 — 17, college w/ID) & seniors (62 +); $2.50 for preschoolers (ages 2-4). Hall members are admitted free. Free hours: Thursday: 2 – 5 pm (September 1 – June 30).

Hours: Tuesday & Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. – 2 p.m.; Thursday – Sunday, 9:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. Closed Mondays, except holidays 9:30 a.m. — 5 p.m. Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
