JACKSON HEIGHTS — Two people and a baby were found dead in a Jackson Heights apartment Tuesday morning in what appeared to be a murder-suicide, police said.
Rose Uruchina, 28, of 82-15 Northern Blvd., was discovered with chest wounds, and her daughter, 6-month-old Andrena, was found dead in the bathtub, police said. An unidentified man in his 40s was found hanging in the bathroom, police said.
The investigation was continuing.
Maspeth hit-and-run driver arrested, other motorist hurt
MASPETH — An off-duty NYPD detective helped stop a Rego Park man who allegedly tried to leave the scene of an accident after he ran a red light just after midnight Tuesday, police said.
Robert Grajewski, 19, of 98-15 Queens Blvd., allegedly drove through the light at the intersection of Rust Street and Grand Avenue, striking a car driven by an unidentified 43-year-old man, police said. Grajewski fled the scene, police said.
Detective Kevin Czartoryski, assigned to the public information office, observed the accident and followed Grajewski as he called 911, police said. Grajewski was placed under arrest, and the driver of the second car was treated at an area hospital, police said.
Sunnyside teen charged with selling laced brownies
MANHATTAN — A Sunnyside teenager was arrested on charges of selling marijuana-laced brownies Friday at LaGuardia High School for the Performing Arts in Manhattan, police said.
Lee Friedman, 17, of 38-27 46th St., and another student, allegedly sold the brownies to six students at the school, who later said they felt dizzy, police said. The students were taken to the hospital for evaluation.
Friedman was arrested and charged with criminal sale of marijuana, but the second student had not been arrested, police said. The investigation was continuing.
Man tries holding up bank, flees cashless in Rego Park
REGO PARK — A man wielding a silver handgun attempted to rob an HSBC bank in Rego Park but fled without any money Friday, police said.
The suspect, a man in his 20s, entered the bank at 64-02 108th St. at about 1:45 p.m. and passed the teller a note demanding money, but left empty-handed, police said. It was unclear why the man fled without the cash.
No arrests were made and police were investigating.
Suspect steals livery cab at gunpoint in Ozone Park
OZONE PARK — Police at the 106th Precinct were looking for a man who stole a livery car at gunpoint at the corner of 135th Street and 107th Avenue Saturday.
The man, described as 6-foot-1-inch, weighing 200 pounds, bald and clean shaven, was a passenger in the cab. When the driver dropped him off at an Ozone Park address, he ordered the driver out of the vehicle. The suspect then sped off in the car, a blue four-door Mercury sedan.
No injuries were reported and the investigation was continuing, police said.
Elmhurst woman’s death reclassified a homicide
ELMHURST — Police reclassified the death of an Elmhurst woman who lingered in a coma for six years after a botched abortion as a homicide last Thursday, police said.
Francisca Gomez was 24 when she was taken from a clinic to Elmhurst Hospital Center in a coma in 1996, police said. Gomez died in June, last year, and the death was classified as a homicide after the city medical examiner performed an autopsy, police said.
Man, 55, killed in Forest Hills van crash
FOREST HILLS — A 55-year-old man was killed early Tuesday morning after his Chevrolet van rear-ended a tractor-trailer on the westbound Horace Harding Expressway near 108th Street, police said.
The man, who was not identified, was the only person in the van at the time of the accident, just after 4 a.m., police said. No summonses were issued, or arrests were made.
Man flees with cash from Astoria Bank of New York
ASTORIA — An Astoria Bank of New York was robbed by a man who escaped with an unknown amount of cash last Thursday, police said.
The man, in his 30s, entered the bank at 29-37 41st Ave. at 11 a.m. and passed the teller a note demanding money. No arrests were made and the investigation was continuing.
Suspect arrested in Forest Hills in connection with robberies
FOREST HILLS — A Manhattan man was arrested Monday in connection with a string of bank robberies, including one in Forest Hills.
Enrique Cova, 35, was charged with robbery for allegedly holding up the JP Morgan Chase bank branch at 107-36 71st St. on Jan. 11, police said. He was also linked to seven other robberies, all in Manhattan police said.
No information was available on how much money Cova allegedly took from the banks.
City Parks employee arrested on auto-stripping charges
WOODHAVEN — A city Parks Department employee was arrested on charges of auto stripping early Sunday morning, police said.
Jose Mercado, of 24 Granite St. in Brooklyn, was arrested at 4:15 a.m. at the corner of 87th Street and Rockaway Boulevard, police said. No information was available about Mercado’s job with the city.
Retired eye doctor stabbed to death in Flushing
FLUSHING — A retired eye doctor was found stabbed to death in his apartment Sunday afternoon, police said.
Key Lou, 70, of 132-54 Maple Ave., was discovered on his bed with multiple stab wounds to his torso at 2:48 p.m., police said.
There were no signs of a break-in and the clutter in Lou’s apartment made it difficult to tell whether or not anything was stolen, Newsday reported.
Lou, a divorced father of five, recently had moved to the boarding house, the paper said.
The three-story brick apartment house in which Lou lived has two survelliance cameras mounted in front.
Police had made no arrests and were investigating.
Woman killed when car strikes bus in Holliswood
HOLLISWOOD — A 63-year-old woman was killed when the Toyota she was riding in rear-ended a New York City bus at the corner of 188th Street and 87th Drive Monday night, police said.
The man driving the car was injured and taken to New York Hospital Queens for medical treatment, police said.
No other injuries were reported, police said.
No arrests were made or summonses issued, and police were continuing the investigation.
Man arrested after truck hits officer in Jamaica
JAMAICA — A Long Island man was arrested after his truck struck a police officer who was issuing him a ticket in Jamaica Saturday afternoon, police said.
Officer Myrna Thomas, of the 113th Precinct in South Jamaica, was writing a summons to Darby Saintilus, 29, of Huntington, at the corner of Jamaica Avenue and Guy R. Brewer Boulevard, police said, when Saintilus allegedly drove off while Thomas was standing outside the truck, hitting her with the rear tire.
Thomas was treated at Mary Immaculate Hospital, and Saintilus was arrested at the scene, police said.
Off-duty city employee arrested on domestic abuse charges
ROSEDALE — An off-duty stock clerk for the city’s Administration of Children’s Services was arrested on domestic abuse charges last Thursday, police said.
Illyas Bass, of 137-55 233rd St., was accused of assaulting a 30-year-old woman at his home, police said. It was unclear if Bass was related to the woman, who was treated by emergency workers at the scene.
Police also found marijuana and another controlled substance at Bass’ home and he was arrested on the drug charges as well as the assault, police said.
3 arrested in Rockaways on harassment charges
ROCKAWAYS — Three men were arrested Saturday for allegedly harassing three 13-year-old girls in the Rockaways, police said.
The men, who were not identified, approached the girls just before 10 p.m. Saturday and pushed one of them, police said. The men also made anti-religious comments directed towards the girls, authorities said.
The girls were not injured, and the men were charged with aggravated harassment, police said.
5 arrested at Hollis school on charges of raping girl, 13
HOLLIS — Five boys were arrested on charges they raped a 13-year-old girl at IS 192 in Hollis Friday, police said.
The boys, ranging in age from 11 to 14, attacked the girl Friday afternoon inside the school at 109-89 204th St. The victim, who was not identified, was treated at an area hospital.
The boys were charged with sodomy and sexual abuse, police said.
