Due to popular demand, the ever-growing Astoria Performing Arts Center will bring William Shakespeare’s classic, “As You Like It,” to the stage beginning Feb. 20.
“APAC surveyed over 400 residents of Astoria and Long Island City and found that they desired to see performances of the classics,” said Executive Director Susan Scannell, “We are continuing to provide the community with high quality entertainment and tailoring of our selections to be able to include the community’s choices as well as offering new cultural experiences.”
“You might say that Shakespeare had invented the first soap opera when he wrote some of his brilliant romantic comedies, but none exemplifies this better than his classic, ‘As You Like It,’” director John Hurley said. “With all the plotting, backstabbing, deception and cross-dressing, the play still seems to pull out a grand old wedding in the end and everyone lives happily ever-after.”
“As You Like It” will be presented at the Astoria Performing Arts Center on Friday, Feb. 20 and Saturday, Feb. 21 at 8 p.m. as well as Sunday, Feb. 22 at 6 p.m. with encore performances on Feb. 27 and 28 at 8 p.m. and Feb. 29 at 6 p.m.
The Astoria Performing Arts Center Theatre is located at the Presbyterian Church of Astoria at 31-30 33rd St. (between 31st Avenue and Broadway) in the heart of Astoria and Long Island City. Tickets are $15; with special discount prices of $12 for seniors and students, as well as $5 for kids less than 16 years of age.
