Mancini tribute features composer’s kin at Queensboro

What do “Moon River” (from Breakfast at Tiffany’s), “The Days of Wine and Roses,” “The Pink Panther” and the “Peter Gunn” themes have in common? At least two things. All were composed by Academy and Grammy Awar

This multi-media tribute Mancini will feature his daughter, vocalist Monica Mancini, singing her father’s hits. The program includes clips from some of Mancini’s greatest movies plus rare behind-the-scenes video, as well as Mancini’s award-winning instrumental music performed by the Henry Mancini Institute Alumni Orchestra.

Nominated for an unequalled 72 Grammy Awards and the winner of 20 of those, Henry Mancini is undoubtedly one of America’s greatest composers. His daughter Monica, described by The New York Times as “the glamorous vocal equivalent to diamonds flashing,” has performed all over the world and recorded several CDs, including the recent “The Dreams of Johnny Mercer” for Concord Records. She will sing her father’s most beautiful songs as well as her other favorite classic movie themes.

The Henry Mancini Institute Alumni Orchestra — which features some of the most brilliant young musicians in the country who have received full scholarships to study at the prestigious institute — rounds out the program with classic Mancini themes such as “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” “Baby Elephant Walk,” and more.

Tickets for Mancini at the Movies are available at the Queensborough Community College box office on campus or by calling 718-631-6311 Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
