New Queens License Plates Getting Popular

The New York State “Discover Queens” license plates, unveiled in July by Borough President Helen Marshall, have taken the borough by storm, adorning cars from Astoria to Bayside.
The plates celebrate the rich heritage and culture of one of the most diverse communities on Earth, coining the phrase, “Visit Queens…See The World.”
Ray Martinez, Commissioner of the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, joined Marshall as well as other elected officials to inaugurate the plates in front of the Unisphere in Flushing Meadows/Corona Park.
“This new license plate will not only help to promote tourism and economic development, but also go a long way toward increasing interest in discovering the many cultural riches that Queens has to offer,” said McLaughlin.
The Unisphere, the borough’s most prized symbol and landmark, is represented on the plate, which includes www.discoverqueens.info, the official tourism website of Queens.
The initial cost for the plate with a number assigned by the DMV is $43. There is an annual renewal fee of $25, which will be credited to the Discover Queens Fund.
