It appears that the 49th Precinct will indeed be adding new officers to its roster.
While the precinct did not receive any police officers from the recent graduating police academy class, the community will be welcoming nine new officers in the very near future.
According to 49th Precinct Commanding Officer Captain George Smith, who delivered the good news to the community during the 49th Precinct Community Council meeting on January 31, the officers come from the Operation Impact details that helped significantly reduce crime in the Bronx last year. The second-year police officers have already become seasoned veterans that Smith will rely on to help deal with quality of life crimes plaguing the area.
