Family Of Man Killed By Off-Duty Officer Sues

The family of 31-year-old Julio Ortega-Moncada, allegedly hit and killed on March 28 by an off-duty housing officer on the Queensboro Bridge, has filed a lawsuit against the city and the suspect.
According to reports, Officer Brandon Colon was driving his car on the outer roadway of the bridge when he struck Moncada, who was walking on a blocked-off section of the roadway.
Following the incident, Colon was charged with manslaughter and driving while intoxicated.
The lawsuit is seeking monetary compensation for the victim’s family, who has also filed a notice of claim, stating that the city did not properly block the pedestrian area where Moncada was walking.
