Meng quits Assembly race

Grace Meng, who was hoping to win her father Jimmy Meng's seat on the Assembly for the next term, has dropped out of the race.
After her residency was challenged, Meng made the decision not to go through the trial process, although she said she had all of the necessary documentation.
&#8220I do not want my family, friends, neighbors and supporters to go through a lengthy trial,” she said in a statement. &#8220I also do not want my contributions to be used towards a legal battle.”
The decision to withdraw her candidacy came the morning of Monday, August 7.
&#8220She had a tough decision to make and we have to support her in that,” said Corey Bearak, who had been working with Meng as her campaign manager.
However, in her statement, Meng said that she will continue to serve her community.
&#8220I will continue to fight for Flushing, its residents, and its interests,” she said. &#8220I thank the thousands of people who encouraged and supported my candidacy. I especially thank my family, campaign team and supporters. I will remain active on behalf of the community.”
Also running for the 22nd District Assembly seat are Ellen Young, Julia Harrison and Terence Park.
