Students at Brooklyn Technical H.S. in Fort Greene might have a chance at small screen stardom. According to the school’s news website BTHSnews.org, MTV is filming a new reality television show about our borough, and producers are seeking sophomores and juniors to transform into student celebrities. In a recent online article — written by Brooklyn Tech’s Coordinator of Student Activities Marc William — students are encouraged to sign up for upcoming casting calls. “This is a show about America’s urban teenagers, the street savvy teenagers, the teenagers who have to grow up much faster because if they don’t, the city will eat them alive,” the website posting describes. New York Department of Education spokeswoman Margie Feinberg confirmed that the school had agreed to allow a television casting call to take place at the building, located at 29 Fort Greene Place. It is unclear when this will take place. Feinberg could not name the producers behind the project, and stressed that there was no agreement to film a reality program on school property. MTV has broadcast several wildly popular – and sometimes controversial – reality television shows in recent years including The Real World, Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica and My Super Sweet Sixteen. Brooklyn Technical High School Principal Randy Asher and Student Activities Coordinator Marc Williams could not be contacted before press time. MTV did not return phone calls.
