Francis Lewis clinched their third consecutive Queens A-East division title last week with a 4-0 win over John Bowne. Sophomore Sebastian Guenzatti scored twice, Frank Lopez and Victor Kam Githae also scored, and midfielder Daniel Ospina had two assists. The Patriots, at 9-0-1, have not lost to a borough opponent since September 20 of 2006.
Newtown, meanwhile, is closing in on their own division crown. The 5-1-4 Pioneers tied Aviation, 1-1, last week. Newcomers is closing in after topping William Bryant, 3-1. Carlos Santander scored twice in the win and Dilver Galmez added a goal. Goaltender Lei Cai made four saves in the victory that pushed the Lions to 4-2-4.
The outcome of the divisional race will depend on how the two teams fare in their final two regular season games. Newcomers meets Flushing (6-2-2), currently second in Queens A-East, while Newtown takes on Forest Hills (3-7-0).
