“Dom's an excellent coach,” said sophomore guard Kelly Robinson, who started playing for Cecala when she was 9 with the AAU New York Explosion. “He keeps you focused.”Cecala, a 28-year-old Bellerose native and graduate of Molloy, will take over varsity for the rest of the season while still coaching the JV.”No matter who's in the seat, these girls gotta take care of business,” said Cecala.McGlynn and assistant Kevin McBride resigned after a victory over Bishop Kearney, citing a “conflict between what we wanted and what the players wanted,” said McGlynn, who took over for original coach Marty Towey before last season and was head JV coach four years prior to that.Robinson said there was a “lack of communication” between the players and their coaches. Robinson didn't play the entire first half against Christ the King Jan. 12, because McGlynn claimed she was sick. Robinson said otherwise. In the same game, Manhattan-bound senior forward Kerri White didn't play in the second half, because McGlynn wanted to go with a faster lineup. On Jan. 14, players' parents met with Molloy athletic director Mike McCleary to air their grievances about McGlynn, sources told the TimesLedger. Two days later, he resigned.
