‘Murder’ plays in Douglaston

On stage at the Zion Church Parish Hall beginning Friday, May 2 will be Agatha Christie’s “A Murder is Announced,” presented by the Douglaston Community Theatre.
A newspaper ad in the small town of Chipping Cleghorn announces that the murder will take place at the home of Letitia Blacklock. This comes as a surprise to the residents of the town, but they assume it is some sort of joke or party idea.
However, to everyone’s surprise, when the lights go out, a real murder is committed. The victim is unknown to everyone and the local police are stumped. Fortunately, Miss Marple just happens to be in the neighborhood . . .
Adapted for the stage by Leslie Darbon and directed by Kevin Vincent, show times are Friday May 2, 9 and 16 at 8 p.m.; Saturday May 3, 10 and 17 at 8 p.m.; and Sunday May 4 at 2 p.m.
Tickets are $14; $12 for seniors. Group discounts available for 10 or more people.

FSF’s production of ‘Peter Pan’

A cast and crew of more than 30 will be featured when the FSF Community Theater Groups’ production of “Peter Pan” opens on Saturday, May 3 for three performances only. The show is a musical based on the play by James M. Barrie, with lyrics by Carolyn Leigh, Betty Comden and Adolph Green, music by Mark Charlap and Jule Styne.
“Peter Pan” is the story of a boy who refuses to grow up and takes the Darling children on a trip to Neverland where their adventures include encounters with lost children, Indians and pirates.
The production is under the stage direction of Maryellen Pierce, with music direction by Paul Johnson. Set design and choreography by Maryellen Pierce. Costumes and sets are made by the talented husband and wife team of Pauline and John Baratta.
Saturday performances are at 8 p.m. on May 3 and 10. The Sunday performance will be at 3 p.m. on May 4. All shows will be at the Free Synagogue of Flushing, 41-60 Kissena Boulevard. On-site parking is available.

‘Triumph of Love’ Running at APAC

The Astoria Performing Arts Center (APAC) opened its current production of the musical comedy “Triumph of Love” on Friday, April 25, with performances running through May 11.
The musical is an adaptation of the classic Marivaux comedy of the same name. It takes a look at some of the strange things a woman will do for love, including telling lies, leaving her career behind or dressing up as a man to get close to her love interest.
Lyrics for “Triumph of Love” are by Susan Birkenhead and the music is by Jeffrey Stock. James Magruder wrote the book for the show.
APAC’s “Triumph of Love” is being directed by Brian Swasey. It stars Richard Rice Alan, Erika Amato, Abby Baum, Justin Birdsong, Philip Deyesso, Tripp Pettigrew, and Ashley Speigel.
Performances of “Triumph of Love” will be held through Sunday, May 11. They will be at 8 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and at 6 p.m. on Sundays.
All performances will take place at the Broccoli Theatre at the Variety Boys & Girls Club of Queens, which is located at 21-12 30th Road in Astoria.
Advanced tickets cost $15. They are $18 at the door.
