Inez St. John

Inez Veronica (Lewis) St. John, 79, of St. Albans, passed away on July 20.
She was the wife of Councilmember Leroy Comrie’s community liaison, Clarence St. John.
“Inez St. John was a tremendously positive influence on numerous lives throughout our community, including, of course, mine,” said Comrie. “It is said that beside every great man is a greater woman - I believe that this was especially true of Inez. She was a true partner to her husband, Clarence - always by his side in advocating for the betterment of the southeast Queens community. On behalf of my family, staff and the entire community of southeast Queens, I want to extend deepest condolences and prayers to her family.”
Born in Jamaica, West Indies, she was preceded in death by her father and mother Cecil and Alice Lewis; her brother Hubert Lewis; first husband C. Collymore; first-born son; and, husband/father of her two daughters, Charles Clinton Humphries.
She is survived by her husband, Clarence Robinson St. John; daughters Averill Marie Clayton and Charlene Ann Ross; her grandchildren Kenneth Clayton, Jr. and Kevin Lewis Suarez; and, her sisters Esmeralda Mercedes Semper and Lillieth V. Messiah.
Having honored her request for cremation, a service will be held at The Parish of Grace Church, 155-15 Jamaica Avenue, on Saturday, August 16 at 10 a.m. with interment immediately following.
