An open letter to Mayor Michael Bloomberg:
In a recent trip to Las Vegas, I could not help notice the constructed, elevated overpasses and walkways that span the main streets. Pedestrians take an elevator or escalator to the top of the structure, walk across it and take an elevator or escalator down to the street on the other side. They never interfering with traffic that passes underneath the overpass, never fearing getting hit by a vehicle.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg, in the near future, Yankee and Shea stadiums will be auctioning off every bit of merchandise they can to the public. It is estimated that the sales will bring in millions. The question is: What do we do with this money?
My suggestion is to use the funds to construct overpasses, like those in Las Vegas, across some of the Times Square and Midtown intersections in order to keep people from interfering with traffic. Or, at least, construct some overpasses across Queens Boulevard, also known as “the Boulevard of Death.”
I have a reputable construction firm and am standing by waiting for your approval. This company has been constructing bridges and tunnels all over the world, including Washington, D.C.
I await your decision.
