Young Lions charity benefits many

Members of the Saint Anastasia’s Leo Club are all smiles as they distribute the benefits from a recent fundraiser Spaghetti Dinner to Father Bill (center, back) and Dino Oranges (second from left in back) of the Little Neck-Douglaston Ambulance Corps.

The group is a youth auxiliary of the Little Neck-Douglaston Lions Club, and the name represents Leadership, Experience and Organization, according to Lions Club President Charles McBride.

“We teach them the three principles and apply it to do charity work. They learn to throw fundraisers and they donate all the money. The Lions Club and personal contributions cover the expenses,” he said.

At the presentation ceremony on Thursday, February 26 the kids – who had raised $1,255 – presented a $1,000 check to the local volunteer ambulance corps and a $200 check to their host parochial school.

What happened to the other $55?

“It’s going toward the entry fee for their team to participate in one of the American Cancer Society’s ‘Relay for Life’ fundraisers this summer,” McBride declared.
