RIDGEWOOD — Police shot and arrested a man who was wielding a firearm and charged him with criminal possession of a disguised gun and menacing a police officer after officers responded to a call in Ridgewood to find him armed with what they later determined to be a BB gun, police said.
When they arrived at 364 Linden St., James Crockett, 61, of Middle Village, was holding the weapon so officers took cover behind parked cars and order him to drop the gun, police said.
Crockett then allegedly turned toward the officers with the gun in his hand, according to police, and after being ordered repeatedly to drop his weapon, one of the officers shot two rounds which hit the suspect in the left side of his torso and thigh. They then inspected the weapon and saw it was a BB gun.
Crockett was taken to Elmhurst General Hospital where he was listed in stable condition Saturday.
