Brenda Blackmon to be honored
at ‘Top Women’ event

For two decades, Emmy-award-winning newscaster Brenda Blackmon has been an important presence in New Yorkers’ living rooms. Her nightly newscasts have comforted and informed in good times and bad, and on Thursday, April 8, the veteran will again find herself in a familiar role. Only, this night, instead of facing My9 WWOR-TV’s video cameras, Blackmon will be under the spotlight at The Queens Courier and Queens Business Today’s eighth annual Top Women in Business Networking Awards Dinner.

The co-anchor of My9 WWOR’s 11 p.m. newscast, Blackmon will be recognized for her stellar career with the “Woman of the Year” award at the “Top Women” event.

Having joined WWOR in 1990, the Columbus, GA native has won numerous Emmys and received honors for her professional expertise and community service. She joins a stellar field of leaders, including Melissa Rabinovich, executive editor of NY 1’s “Local Edition,” who are being recognized at “Top Women” for their contributions to their local communities and to industries ranging from finance to medicine to the non-profit sector.

Already well known for attracting the borough’s best, brightest and most influential business leaders, this year’s event will feature Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown as “Best Man of the Year.” Brown, who entered his 50th year of public service, recently became the longest-serving D.A. in Queens history.

The gathering, which will feature a rendition of “God Bless America” by Pia Toscano – a one-time featured singer on American Idol Extra and a past National Anthem contest winner at Citi Field – takes place from 5 to 9 p.m. at Terrace on the Park.
