Gulf of Mexico oil spill leaves many questions unanswered

Am I to understand that the damaged oil rig that exploded in the Gulf of Mexico, killing 11 workers over a month ago, could be gushing a million barrels of oil per day? In better times, was this the amount that has been producing oil from this drilling location on a daily basis?

How much oil is being produced from other rigs around our country? How much is being produced by all the oil rigs in Texas and other states? If I remember correctly, wasn’t it our tax dollars that paid for the Alaskan pipe line to support the lower 48 states?

Where is all this oil going? Who is benefitting from the millions of gallons of “our” oil? If the oil produced by us from all those rigs and locations are for our benefit, why are we so dependent upon foreign oil? Somebody out there is really cashing in at our expense.
