Jackson Heights – Thanks to the efforts of the community, Assemblymember Michael DenDekker, and the New York City Department of Transportation (DOT), an intersection in Jackson Heights will now become much safer.
On July 20, 2010, DenDekker was informed by the DOT that an additional traffic signal would be installed at the intersection of 31st Avenue and 86th Street in Jackson Heights. According to the Office of the Queens Borough Commissioner, the work is tentatively scheduled for completion by November 30, 2010.
“First, I want to thank the New York City Department of Transportation for its attention to this serious safety issue,” DenDekker stated. “This new traffic signal at 31st Avenue and 86th Street will make this dangerous intersection a much safer place, especially for pedestrians.”
Earlier this year, the DOT undertook a study of the intersection in response to a request from DenDekker’s office.
“I encourage all residents to contact my office if they see places where we can improve transportation systems and enhance safety in the 34th Assembly District,” DenDekker said.
