Northeast Queens artists will be showing off their handcrafted wares during the Bayside Arts and Crafts Fair scheduled for Oct. 17 at the Bayside Long Island Rail Road station behind the Chase Bank.
“There’s going to be exhibitions. Everything is handmade,” said Angela Gozzi, whose business, AG Media Corp., is producing the event. “Hopefully, we’ll draw a large crowd,” she said of the first-time event.
About eight to 10 Bayside artists are scheduled to display their original artwork during the event, which lasts from 10 a.m to 6 p.m.
Aside from the jewelry, pottery, gift baskets, ceramics and original oil, water and acrylic art that will be on display, those who show up to the fair will be treated to classical music, bands and a stilt walker who juggles and makes balloon animals.
The sounds of doo-wop entertainer Vic Vena, solo acoustic guitarist Rich Weiss and Latin group Inti and the Moon are expected to fill the air.
The fair is being sponsored by the Bayside Village Business Improvement District and the Bayside-based Village Artist Organization.
Another neighborhood event is coming up even sooner.
On Thursday, St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church at 196-10 Northern Blvd. in Auburndale is kicking off its 39th-annual Greek Festival, filled with food, games, Greek pastries and tours of the church.
The festival runs until Sunday, when the church is holding a fund-raising raffle where a 2011 Mercedes C300 and a 2010 Dodge Challenger are up for grabs.
Third prize is $5,000 and there are 32 prizes in all.
The festival opens Thursday from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and runs from 6 p.m. to midnight Friday, noon to midnight Saturday and ends noon to 10 p.m. Sunday.
Those attending the festival will have their share of souvlaki and gyro, Greek pastries and loukoumades (Greek honey puffs).
